Vrat Ki Thali (Vegetarian Platter for fast)

This Platter has potato curry and buckwheat fried breads, which are accompanied with curd and green coriander chutney.


Vrat Platter


Ingredients required for Potato Curry

  • Potatoes (Boiled)

  • Tomatoes (Chopped)

  • Green Chilly (Chopped)

  • Coriander (Finely Chopped)

  • Salt (As per Taste)

  • Cumin seeds

  • Cumin Powder

  • Coriander Powder

  • Garam Masala Powder

  • Clarified Butter (Desi Ghee)

Potato Curry

Method of Preparation

  • In a heated pan, add clarified butter

  • After the butter is hot, add cumin seeds and chopped green chilly. Saute well.

  • Add chopped tomatoes and saute

  • Add some salt, cumin powder and coriander powder. Saute everything till it starts releasing oil.

  • Add boiled potatoes and mix well

  • Add water. Cover and cook for 10 minutes. Stir occasionally

  • Open the lid and break the potatoes into smaller pieces with spatula. Add more water if required.

  • Add garam masala and coriander powder. Mix well and cook till the gravy becomes thick.


Ingredients required for Buckwheat (Kuttu) bread

  • Potatoes (Boiled and grated)

  • Buckwheat Flour

  • Salt

  • Water (if required)

Buckwheat Fried Bread (Kuttu Ki Poori)

Method of Preparation

  • Mix grated potatoes, buckwheat flour and some salt.

  • Kneed it to get a semi-soft dough (Add more flour if required)

  • Take a small portion of the dough and roll it into a flat round bread. You can also roll it between you hands.

  • Heat some oil in a wok and let it come to smoking point.

  • Add rolled breads and fry them from both sides till brown and crispy.

(Rolling on a board will give you thin and crispy bread while rolling between hands will give you a bit softer, thicker and crispy bread)


Serve with curd and green coriander chutney
