Spinach Lentil (Soup) OR Palak Dal

Try This Recipe

It will revamp your love for them..!!



Ingredients required

  • Chopped Spinach (200 grams or 1 bowl)

  • 1 Chopped Tomato

  • 4-5 Garlic Cloves (Finely Chopped)

  • 2 Green Chilly (Finely Chopped)

  • 1 Inch Ginger (Finely Chopped)

  • 5 Tablespoons each of Black Lentils (Urad dal) and Green Lentils (Moong dal)

  • Cumin Seeds (1 Tablespoon)

  • Ghee/Clarified Butter (1 Tablespoon)

  • Asafoetida/Hing (2-3 Pinch)

  • Turmeric Powder (1/2 Teaspoon)

  • Red Chilly Powder (1/2 Teaspoon)

  • Salt (As per taste)

  • Water (3 Cups)


Method of Preparation

  • Mix & soak both lentils (dals) in water for 10-15 minutes.

  • Heat 1 tablespoon Ghee/Clarified Butter in a cooker and add 1 teaspoon cumin seeds. Let them splutter.

  • Add 2-3 pinch asafoetida (hing).

  • Add chopped garlic , green chilly and ginger. Saute well.

  • Add 1/2 teaspoon each of turmeric powder & red chilly powder. Mix well.

  • Add one chopped tomato & mix well.

  • Add chopped spinach (palak) and soaked lentils.

  • Mix well & add water.

  • Close the lid and cook for 4 whistles on low-to-medium flame.

  • Switch off the flame and let the inside pressure release naturally.


Top with a spoonful of Ghee & Enjoy with hot Chapati/Bread
